Your interest can be your most profitable niche!
Some experts tell you to follow the money; others want you to pursue your interests. I think the last direction is the correct one. Affiliate marketing and other make online money niches have competition. It's not so easy to make a living online today as it was for a few years ago. Now you may need to test the market and work for some time before you see results, regardless of what you do. Not get me wrong, they who get the hang of it will see the results faster, but most people need to learn the profession before they get successful. Affiliate marketing and other make online money niche is a profession.
So if you choose a very profitable niche, but you have no interest in it. And you need to do extensive research before the posts you write. How long will you continue with this if the topic is for you boring? I don't think you will continue to do this for 6 months without results.
If you choose something that interests you and is knowledgeable about, this will be easier. You know the lingo the niche use. You can picture your typical reader and talk to that person more easily. You can maybe write 10 to 20 articles without to do research. This way, you can build the foundation for your affiliate marketing website with ease. Then you can do some research so you can make your exciting content. The content that others will link to and people on social media will share.
The most important thing is when you write articles that interest you, you can do it for a long time without you see results directly. People that do the necessary work will gain results in the end. After some time you will see the results you have worked so hard for. If you have chosen a boring niche, you had probably given up before you reached the goal.
I have one interest that I will write about, is it enough to begin?
It's not so easy to find your niche I'm afraid. If you are interested in a topic, this will probably mean that it's more people out there that have the same interest. This site is about your path to online income, so I assume you want to make some money. So you need to find out if you can monetize this interest.
So you need to check if you can find information products or physical products you can write about and promote. The most accessible places to look for regarding physical products is Amazon. Amazon sells almost everything that is out there, but the commission is low. For a beginner, Amazon is good enough, and you can try to find a better affiliate commission later.
Other useful sites to check is Clickbank, JVZoo, Zaxaa, CJ Affiliate, and ShareASale. There you will find most info products to promote. ShareASale have physical products. Can you find at least five products you can promote? And have you checked their stats, so you know the product is already selling? If you have found you 5 selling products, you are probably good to go further.
I have 5 products, may I start now?
I was once listening to an interview with a successful affiliate marketer. His first site was about wood flooring. He had great affiliate offers. The company he was promoting the products for, was willing to send out test products. It seemed like the right niche since many people like wood floors.
The problem was that after he has written 5 articles that should connect with buyers, he struggled to write more engaging posts and articles. You can't write much about wood flooring. Not enough so google will rank your site high.
So you also need to validate that your chosen niche or niches are big enough to write several long articles. Wood flooring is also not a very passion niche nor solves a big problem.
So you need to make sure that:
- You can write several articles that are between 1000 to 4000 words long.
- Your niche is a passionate niche. Think about the cat niche or hiking niche.
- Will your affiliate offers to solve a problem? Problem-solving is not necessary but will make it easier.
I have several niches to write and promote. I now want to write about them all and make a pile of money!
So you have done some research and found multiple potential niches. You are lucky! Most people struggle a bit about niche selection, but you need to choose one niche. You need to do one project at the time. Don't be the person who jumps from project to project, and maybe you have work and children in addition to your side hustle?
You need to build a site at the time and fill it with the necessary content. When your site is built and you have enough articles for Google to work with, you can start a new project. The previous project will now be there so google can understand it better, and you gain traffic over time. You still need to add a couple of articles a month and try to optimize your website, but you now have time for other websites or projects.
You should also do some link building that is a slow and steady process.
So what do you choose? You go to google trends and check if your niche:
- Is this a seasonal niche? If you want monthly stable income, your niche should not be very seasonal.
- is in a growing or stable trend? You don't want to write about a niche that is losing interest.
You also want to choose a niche that has some higher priced products you can promote to those who trust you and are willing to spend more money. There is a limit on how much you can make of $20 products.
Conclusion
So you have found a niche that:
- Is an interest you know. So you are able to write multiple high-quality articles to your typical visitor with minimal research.
- Is big enough so you can write many articles on the topic.
- Have at least 5 affiliate offers that sell today.
- One of them is a high-end product that sells for more so you earn more in commission.
- Is not seasonal so you can have a stable income.
- Is it a stable or growing trend so your niche will be profitable for years.
Then you can start your path to online income. What do you think, was my article helpful and do maybe you have more questions? I'm happy to answer and also update this article.
